On July 17, 2018 in Rogers, Arkansas, Innovate Arkansas held the third Innovate Arkansas Network (IAN) event. This event focused on the healthcare technology sector with three presenting Arkansas technology-based startup companies: Rx Results (Tery Baskin), Clinicpass (Tracy Simpson) and HPN (Nick Smith).

For this event, two companies from central Arkansas and one company from northwest Arkansas were selected. The companies were invited to present their growth challenges to a group of industry-specific mentors. The purpose of this session was to create an environment of confidential and collaborative problem solving for supporting growth-stage companies by solving growth challenges. To do this, each CEO was asked to identify their main growth challenges as part of their presentation to the advisors.

Rx Results

Rx Results is a system that allows millions of patients and pharmacy benefits plan providers to have the same independent insight and guidance that Tery Baskin provided to his pharmacy customers. Tery built RxResults by combining the proven, evidence based approach of a nationally recognized College of
Pharmacy with a sophisticated analytical and reporting tool developed in-house. Tery was so focused on results for the patient that he made it part of the company name. As Tery says, “When it comes to patient care, it’s not about whether you’re taking the name brand drug, it’s about taking the right drug for a condition, at the right price, for the best results.”

Prior to RxResults, Tery served as the COO and CMO for NMHC (now Catamaran), a publicly traded PBM based in New York. His pharmacy career has included serving as President of a PBM (Pharmacy Associates Inc.), owning three community pharmacies, serving on boards and in other leadership roles at state and national pharmacy associations, and federal task forces related to health care reform. Tery currently serves as Treasurer & Trustee of The American Pharmacists Association (APhA). Tery has BS and PharmD degrees from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

HPN

Arkansas High Performance Network is dedicated to promoting higher-quality healthcare access points, better patient experiences, better patient outcomes and lowering the overall cost associated with care. They focus their attention on transformation opportunities that create exponential value for the patient-provider and provider-payor relationships as they transform the delivery system from “volume of care” to “value of care.

Prior to launching HPN, Nick Smith worked with the innovation teams of both Medicare and Walmart, as well as numerous other fortune 500 companies and large self-funded employer health plans. Nick led an innovation initiative which
secured the first Medicare Innovation Center investment in Arkansas, supporting Independent Primary Care practices across the state, now successfully improving the quality of care and lowering overall costs.

With 16 attendees total at the event, the three companies each held the floor for 45 minutes. The 15-minute presentations focused on barriers to growth specific to each company, followed by 30 minutes of discussion and advice from the mentors in attendance.

Six mentors from healthcare-related companies based in Northwest Arkansas attended:

  • Vance Moore, Mercy Virtual

  • Omid Moghadam, Ascendant Dx, LLC
  • Tom Emerick, Emerick Consulting, LLC
  • Robyn Goforth, BiologicsMD, Inc.
  • Spencer Jones, Lineus Medical
  • Clete Brewer, NewRoad Capital Partners

The goal of these events is to help scalable Arkansas-based companies continue their growth and connect them one-on-one to high-level mentors to assist in that growth. Several of the mentors expressed interest in connecting with the presenting companies after the event to continue the conversation about support and growth for these Arkansas startup companies.
