Global security company provides workforce training grant to UALR

Little Rock, Ark. (Dec. 1, 2014)--A global aerospace, information technology and defense technology company has provided its first workforce training grant to the Department of Computer Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

The initial $2,500 award, provided through Northrop Grumman’s Aid to Higher Education grant program, will help meet information technology needs at the Arkansas Department of Human Services.

Dr. Coskun Bayrak, professor of computer science in the College of Engineering and Information Technology at UALR, said the collaboration with Northrop Grumman will help fund a course in model-driven development in addition to operations and maintenance of the college’s Curam framework.

Bayrak partnered with Program Manager Brian Keltch of the Northrop Grumman Little Rock office to obtain the grant.

Keltch said company officials were excited to contribute to the development of student leaders and prepare them to serve Grumman businesses and communities.

“These relationships influence curriculum, provide opportunities for exceptional talent, and drive the development of research and technology,” said Shauna Holcomb, university relations and recruiting lead at Northrop Grumman Information Systems.
