Innovation Hub Hits the Ground Running in 2015

January 13, 2015

The Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub in Argenta (that's downtown NLR for those of you north of the Bobby Hopper) is hitting the ground running in 2015.

Sprinting may be a more accurate word, actually.

On Wednesday, the Hub's Hub-UB series kicks off its 2015 slate with Launch Pad director Joel Gordon leading a panel discussion of the biggest tech-related events of 2014 and what to expect in the new year.

It starts Wednesday at 6 p.m. from the Launch Pad, the Hub's maker space located in the newly renovated Argenta Innovation Center on East Broadway in NLR.

The series runs the second Wednesday of each month.

Speaking of the Launch Pad, it'll launch a new series of MAKE events beginning Jan. 30 and hosting a maker event with a specific theme each month throughout 2015. Each event will begin at 7 p.m. from the Launch Pad and is limited to 50 attendees, so you'll need to reserve your spot(s). Cost is $10 to attend and $20 for special events in February and December.

Here's the schedule:

  • Jan. 30: MAKE Resolutions
  • Feb. 13: MAKE Love
  • March 14: MAKE Pi
  • April 24: MAKE it Rain
  • May 1-2: MAY-KE, MAKER FAIRE
  • June 26: MAKE Electricity
  • July 24: MAKE it Fly
  • Aug. 28: MAKE it Brew
  • Sept. 25: MAKE it Sew
  • Oct. 30: MAKE it Spooky
  • Nov. 27: MAKE a Feast
  • Dec. 18: MAKE it Merry

Speaking of makers, the Launch Pad welcomes its newest member and in-house engineer, Georg Seyerle Fleck of Stuttgart, Germany. Here's more from the Hub:

Thanks to our amazing partnership with Arkansas Manufacturing Solutions, Georg will help inventors and entrepreneurs bring their ideas to reality. Along with AMS, The Hub is now a Manufacturing Extension Partnership, utilizing techniques like 3-D printing to accelerate the process of turning ideas into marketable products.

If you're ready to turn that great idea into a working prototype, then it's time to bring your idea to Hub and say hello to Georg!

Oh, but that's not all. The robots return to Argenta on Jan. 21 when the Central Arkansas Robotics League meets at the Launch Pad starting at 6:30.  The group will meet there the third Wednesday of each month.

Plus, the Hub's arts component, the Art Connection, will be a big part of the Argenta Art Walk from 5-8 p.m. on Friday.

And in addition to all the Hub activity, this week Hub director Warwick Sabin kicked off his second term in the Arkansas House of Representatives, where he rerpresents midtown Little Rock.

Congrats to Warwick, and to everyone at the Hub, keep up all the good work.

Visit the Hub's site for more info on any of its programs.
