Kum Bay Yah Meets Combat Airlift, Or Why Little Rock Is So Cool

June 8, 2009

Kum bay yah met combat airlift on Friday in Little Rock, and it's all good.

Two beautiful, gray C-130s from Little Rock Air Force Base "buzzed" the grounds at Heifer International where officials were dedicating Heifer Village on a sun-baked morning, a visual reminder of why Little Rock is such a unique place to live.

On any given day, Little Rockers can drive (or pedal, if you're Rod Bryan) east toward downtown and see the silhouette of the capitol rotunda against the backdrop of a C-130 Hercules training flight.

Little Rock has what Mayor Mark Stodola calls a "world-class non-profit corridor" anchored by world-renowned organizations like Heifer, Winrock and others soon to set up corporate shop in the River Market. Alltel, Acxiom, Dillard's and more have started and succeeded here.

IA clients including entrepreneurs Dustin Henderson and Brant Collins share a vision of Little Rock evolving into a startup hotbed. And why not? We've got hills and trees, CityYear and Fortune 500.

Where kum-bay-yah can co-exist with combat airlift, surely anything is possible.
