100 Girls of Code Set to Launch First Arkansas Workshops

May 6, 2015

100 Girls of Code rolls in Arkansas this month: this week in northwest and next in central.

The free program aims to introduce girls ages 10 to 18 to coding, developing, computer programming and game development.

It will conduct its first Arkansas workshop on Saturday, May 9, from Rogers High School.

Startup Junkie is hosting 100 Girls of Code in NWA.

In Little Rock, the Innovation Hub is hosting the program, and the first central Arkansas workshop is set for Saturday, May 16.

Tech startup leaders across the state have stressed the importance of developing homegrown "tech talent" in Arkansas.

100 Girls of Code should help build that foundation while making the coding arts more available to girls. Plus, the Iron Yard coding school begins classes in Little Rock soon.

May 16 will see the inaugural 100 Girls of Code workshop for the Central Arkansas Chapter -- and it's already epic!

The goal for each 100 Girls of Code chapter is to instruct 100 girls each year during one-day workshops. There, they are introduced to computer programming, website construction, game development and more.

We've reached 75% of our 100-girl goal in our first workshop! (And we had to cap it there, so all our girls will get plenty of time with instructors.)

While registration for the May 16 workshop is closed, we are accepting registrations for the next workshop. The date has not been set yet, but details are coming soon! Visit our website for more information.

Originating in Tennessee, 100 Girls of Code promotes gender parity in STEM fields by introducing young women, ages 10 to 18, to coding and computer engineering.
